Sweet Bay Forest

Slaveholders were philosophizing
as they didn't worry about bread because
slaves were giving them their bread.
Slaves were not philosophizing
as they didn't worry about bread because
slaveholders were giving them their bread.
And Lycia broke down.
Slaves were making bread
as they didn't worry about philosophy because
slaveholders were giving them their philosophy.
Philosophy-holders were not making bread
as they didn't worry about slaves because
philosophy was giving them their slaves.
And Lycia broke down.

Neither philosophy had bread
nor bread had philosophy.
And the philosophy of ownerless bread ate
the bread of ownerless philosophy.
Just like the ownerless bread of philosophy ate
the ownerless philosophy of bread.
And Lycia broke down.
It's still below a green sweet bay forest.

Hello Sihirli:
Ultimately we are all of one bread and one life. We ignore this at our peril.

Jane and Lance, yes, we ignore this... The poet says that slaveholders were philosophizing in Lycia as they didn't worry about bread. The fact is that people who worry about and run after bread don't have time and possibility to philosophize... Thanks indeed.

Gerçekten de hazmı çok zor şu felsefenin. :)

I'm following you from Italy and it's very interesting for me to read your blog. Especially since I don't know a thing about Turkish literature.

Wow! This is a truly powerful poem.

Welcome Ciccia! Most of my followers are American and English. I'm very happy to have an Italian follower this time. Thanks for your nice comment and hope to visit each other from now on so that I can learn something about Italian culture as well.

Welcome Angela! Yes, this is really a complicated philosophical poem in which the poet underlines slavery... Nice to read your comment, thanks.

This is deep. Quite a thought-provoking and touching poem. It really bothers me that slavery still exists in our world, yet we seldom hear about it, and even if it's addressed, nothing is done about it. Very sad.

LynNerd, you're right to say that slavery still exists in the world but we unfortunately can't do anything about it. And this is really a touching philosophical poem which underlines slavery...
Thanks a lot for your nice comment.
